El Chorro’s story begins in 1934, when it was founded as a one-room schoolhouse for the daughters of John C. Lincoln, the founder of Camelback Inn. In 1937, the schoolhouse was transformed into a watering hole for Camelback Inn’s guests, as it did not serve alcohol at the time.
Under the ownership of Jan and Mark Gruber, El Chorro became a sought-after destination during the 1950s, attracting Arizona families, local personalities, and world-famous celebrities. Guests such as Clark Gable, Milton Berle, and other prominent figures flocked to the lodge, drawn by its unique charm and spirit of the West.
Over the years, new owners added their own character and tradition to El Chorro, expanding its capacity and preserving its essence. The lodge continued to grow and evolve, attracting a diverse clientele and becoming a beloved part of the Paradise Valley community.
In July 2021, Grossman Company Properties and Marc & Rose Hospitality acquired El Chorro, adding to their distinguished list of restaurants and resorts throughout Arizona and California. 1 Today, El Chorro exists as a welcoming beacon of originality, offering a blend of modern amenities and timeless traditions.
