This was a beautiful little stop. Although not really meant to be a tourist stop, we decided to. This is still a functional library, so please be respectful.

It was originally a home for a sea captain that was later donated to be a library in 1898. The woodwork and structure is beautiful inside.

The biggest library I’ve ever been to. I just moved in from another state and wanted to stop by and check the library scene and really enjoyed our time there. We spent probably two hours looking at books before the library closed but we definitely could’ve stayed even longer. They had a good collection of YA books, lgbtq+ books, and interesting fiction and non-fiction books. They also had a whole teen section, a whole kids section. I mean it truly has something for everyone with 3 floors and study rooms and an auditorium. They also have a bookstore of used books that you can buy to support the library and seasonal book selling events (which we walked in on and really enjoyed). We even snagged a really cool book from 1896 in their rare books collection that was on auction. We had a blast!

We love the Salem library. They have tons of options and areas that make it easy to find what you’re looking for. The staff is wonderful. I’ve only been a few times and they helped me know return times for different things. Their policies are easy and I love that it auto scans books on the counter. They have great options for homeschooling. There’s backpacks with different subjects inside to teach your kids. Some have dvds, but all of the backpacks come with various books in that subject. For example we got sign language, horses, family, and gardening. The limit is huge for how many books each person can take. My family of six gets 50 books and each backpack only counts as one. There’s playrooms as well for littles. I wish the fantasy section was a bit bigger, but I love having this library.
