We were in Chicago six days. We covered a lot of ground and hit all the major tourist attractions. The Art Institute was amongst the very best Chicago has to offer. Seeing paintings and sculptures up close is a moving experience and nothing like seeing a photo of the real thing.
Do not miss The Ando Room or the Fullerton Hall. They are both included on the Institutes’s architectural audio tour via their app. Spectacular!!

This is one of the most incredible museums I’ve been to. The highlight of my first trip to Chicago. It’s centrally located and adjacent to Millennium Park. The building’s architecture is beautiful and we happened to arrive in time to see a blues guitarist begin performing right outside. There is so much impressionist art here and a great balance of foreign and domestic artists. I planned ahead and knew I wanted to focus on the second and third floor. I spent nearly four hours here but could’ve easily spent twice as long since there were two other floors I didn’t visit. I booked a space in one of the surrounding parking lots but could’ve easily taken public transportation. I had a boat tour right after with a strict timeline so driving was my best option. The parking lot was easy to navigate and only a five minute walk away.
