Lord Jesus Christ our God, Cornerstone of Your holy Church, Giver of every good gift, the One who first loved us, look down upon us Your people who desire to build a temple unto Your glory in memory of Your saint Nicolas and grant us the wisdom, strength, and resources to accomplish this task in accordance with Thy will.

Coming from a non-denominational background but searching for deeper roots in my Christian faith, I had read about Orthodoxy but put off going for several years, for fear the faith I had read about was “dead” in contemporary services. My first day at Saint Nicholas made it abundantly clear that this is the furthest thing from the truth. As strange as the service was from what I was used to, it immediately felt like home. That was 5 years ago. I am now Orthodox and part of this vibrant community. This is an amazing parish for anyone who is “ortho-curious” or just wants to experience a loving and welcoming community who knows what they believe. Join us for liturgy and coffee hour afterwards. You will not go unnoticed – we will ask you who you are and what your story is. We will love you no matter where you are on your spiritual journey.
I also just wanted to speak to a review that was made about our homeless ministry. I’m not sure what that person’s experience might have been, but the church has several philanthropic ministries, including donating to the winter shelters here locally. On several occasions someone has wandered in, joined our service, and then joined us for food and coffee at coffee hour. I have watched members of my parish gather around these people and get to know them during this fellowship hour. We have members from many cultures, all ages, and varied economic classes. We do not discriminate. Regardless, I appreciate this comment because it just means we can do an even better job directing the homeless population of Virginia Beach to the resources and programs we partner with.

We went for Easter 3 years ago (Friday and Saturday evening sessions) when we happened to be in VA Beach during that holiday. Probably the best Orthodox Easter Service we had in the US, ever! Nice and small congregation, felt very comfortable even though we were "outsiders".
BTW, what prompted me to review this church is that there is an idiot that has commented here that the priest is a complete jerk and ass! Nothing could be further from the truth (at least the one we met when we went couldn't have been nicer)! If you look at that idiot's reviews he's blasting all Orthodox/Coptic churches he reviews (within a couple of weeks BTW) with the same idiotic comments. Obviously has an agenda and I feel sorry for him, but just wanted to set the record straight with my first hand experience here! 🙂
