As a wedding photographer based in Houston, I recently had the immense pleasure of working at The Artisan in Old Town Galveston, and I am absolutely thrilled to share my experience. This venue is truly a gem, offering a unique blend of historic charm and modern elegance that is simply captivating.

The Artisan, originally the Island City Woodworking mill built in 1908, beautifully embodies Galveston's rich history as a vibrant port town and a hub for creativity. The recent remodel has been done with incredible care, preserving the venue's authentic soul while adding contemporary touches (the restoration was even featured on a TV show!). The original brick wall in the outdoor ceremony area provides a rustic, timeless backdrop, and the spacious interior boasts stunning woodwork that adds warmth and character to every shot.

What truly stands out is how versatile the space is. I saw the reception area transformed beautifully, even featuring a striking black and white checkered dance floor, which looked fantastic in photos. The blend of old-world charm with modern amenities makes it an ideal location for couples looking for a venue with a story and sophisticated appeal.

From a photographer's perspective, the lighting and diverse backdrops here are fantastic. The staff was also incredibly accommodating and professional, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable day for everyone involved. I highly recommend The Artisan to any couple looking for a unique, historic, and utterly beautiful wedding venue in the Galveston area. It's a place where new memories are made amidst a rich legacy.

Let me start by saying, we would choose The Artisan as our wedding venue again and again without hesitation—and I’m confident our guests would agree! Even now, a couple weeks later, we are still hearing stories of how much fun was had by all.

Galveston has always been a significant part of our story as a couple. I was born on the island, my now-husband is a TAMUG graduate, and so many of our favorite memories have been made here. When it came to choosing a venue, it felt only natural to celebrate our wedding in a place that holds so much meaning to us. We wanted a space that embodied Galveston’s historic charm while feeling elevated enough for a wedding yet relaxed enough for our guests to enjoy the carefree spirit of an island weekend.

Michael and Ashley were incredible throughout the entire process—from our initial tour to booking and even on our big day. They answered every question and gave us the freedom to make the space exactly what we wanted for our wedding, even allowing us to include our precious dogs in the celebration!

Looking back, we couldn’t be happier with our decision to support locally owned and operated businesses, starting with The Artisan as our venue. The collaboration of The Artisan, our friends, family, and other local businesses brought our wedding dreams to life in the most meaningful way. There’s something truly special about working with people who know you and/or are part of your community—it added so much heart to our celebration and made our wedding everything we dreamed of and more.

    5 Stars!
If you’re looking for a truly remarkable venue in Galveston, The Artisan Event Venue is it. The building itself dates back to the late 19th century and has been lovingly restored—as you may have seen on television. Historic charm meets modern amenities here, making for an unforgettable setting. The space is wide open and customizable and has a caterer's kitchen, beautiful bar area, an amazing outdoor space, and well appointed bride and groom's suites. I've seen pictures of some beautiful weddings here, but it should be considered for any event – We used it for a Texas Honky Tonk Style Birthday Party.

A huge part of what makes this venue so special are the Cordrays, whose passion for preserving Galveston’s history is evident in every detail. Michael was quick to respond to our questions and incredibly accommodating, ensuring that everything went smoothly from start to finish. His dedication and friendly approach took a lot of stress out of the planning process, leaving us free to enjoy the festivities.

Overall, The Artisan Event Venue offers a perfect blend of history, style, and personalized service. All of our guests LOVED the space and several of our guests said they wanted to have their next event here. It’s a piece of Galveston history brought back to life, and we can’t recommend it highly enough for any celebration!

(I didn't get many pictures of the venue itself, but I think you can tell by the smiles in the photos that I did capture, that everyone had a great time here!)
