We were lucky enough to stay during my birthday week last month and had an amazing time! The owners of The Rustic Barnyard go above and beyond to give you a 10/10 experience.

As soon as we arrived we were greeted by their pup Kiko who led the way to our cabin, showed us around, and checked back in on us throughout our stay. We also got to feed the cute little goats on the property, watch the chickens strut around, and discover some other local wildlife.

During our time in the area we went river tubing, shopped in the downtown, and tried out a few different local restaurants. If you’re ever looking for the perfect place to getaway for a few days in San Marcos, this is the best place to be!

What an amazing place!!
My wife and I have stayed at the Rustic Barnyard three times in the past year during Thanksgiving and Christmas to visit our daughters who live nearby.
If you are looking for a secluded and exceptionally built cabin with a rustic atmosphere, you can't go wrong here. Just a short scenic drive from downtown San Marcos, the Rustic Barnyard lacks nothing in accommodations. The cordwood cabin is plenty spacious with large front and back porches. The kitchen is well stocked, the bedroom is large, the living room is very comfortable, and a large dining table suited us, our daughters and their boyfriends comfortably. Their dog Kiko is a bonus!
A very nice gas grill is just steps away. We used the fire pit numerous times to make smores (they even provide the marshmallows, graham crackers and chocolates!).
The Rustic Barnyard is our go to place when visiting the area.

We’ve had the pleasure of staying at the Rustic Barnyard four times over the past year, and each visit truly feels like a home away from home. Tara and Jesse have been incredibly communicative and accommodating, ensuring that every stay is seamless and welcoming.

The resort staff go above and beyond to make our visits special—dropping off goat and chicken feed so we can interact with the animals on-site. (We absolutely love the animals!) And the best one? KIKO! That sweet farm dog makes us feel right at home and helps us miss our own dogs a little less during our stay.

The cabins are exactly as advertised—clean, efficient, and equipped with everything you need without any unnecessary clutter. The fresh chicken eggs and scratch-made biscuits are such a thoughtful (and delicious!) touch.

We’re hoping to move to the area soon, but until then, Rustic Barnyard is the only place we’d consider staying. Thank you, Tara and Jesse, for creating such a special place where our family of four has made so many wonderful memories!
