We just completed a 6 day stay and can’t say enough about how amazing it was! I’m a former Hawaii resident who brought my Husband to Hawaii for the very first time. We found The Modern to be a great deal budget wise! We especially appreciated the onsite daily breakfast that was included in our room rate. Daily parking of $31 is on the lower end of Waikiki standards. I especially love its location. Close enough to the thick of Waikiki but just enough on the outskirts to make accessibility easier. David at the poolside bar was one of our favorites! But really, ALL HOTEL STAFF we interacted with were extremely friendly and helpful. The room was also very clean and expertly made up daily. We are already planning our next stay to The Modern in the future.

This was the first time I stayed at the Modern. I liked the simplicity and minimalistic design of the property. The room was filled with natural light. I felt extremely lucky and grateful for the ocean view room! 🐬
All the staff I encountered were extremely professional and friendly. (Big shout out to Alicia and Maxwell for making my stay extra special! 🏝️)
The property is about 15-20 minutes walk from the busy Waikiki area. I liked it because it was quieter.

We stayed in both a timeshare unit and a hotel room. The timeshare had real problems. The Modern is anything but. The rooms are outdated. The timeshare room had a bathroom in poor condition. The cold water in the shower didn't work. Fortunately, the hotel fixed this quickly. But the shower fixture was difficult to turn off completely; it needed hard pushing to get the handle all the way to closed. The sink had a totally outdated faucet that was very had to turn on or off. The shower lacked a shelf to hold toiletries. The toilet handle was difficult to flush. The bathroom was a mess. Plus, the horrendously loud noise from the elevators in the line of studio timeshare rooms numbered 23 would drive most people over the edge; fortunately for my wife and I, we are used to noisy rooms since we lived in New York. The hotel room was better, but the carpet was so dirty it left my feet black from walking barefoot on it. This lodging doesn't seem to meet Hilton's standards, and I find that surprising since they have now owned it for a couple years. I will say that the staff at the Modern are fantastic, and kudos to them for helping make our stay more pleasant.
