A must visit spot in St. Louis. And having visited too many art galleries across the globe, this one is with no doubt: outstanding. It has varieties of art pieces from old Egypt to modern America. Bank one full day to fully enjoy what this museum can offer.

The museum is free admission as well which is amazing 👏

Also, the staff are very friendly and helpful.

This is an world-class museum – that's free! Except for certain special exhibitions, the Saint Louis Art Museum does not charge an admission. And they have a stunning array of great works by such esteemed artists as Rembrandt, Monet, Van Gogh, Renoir, Mary Cassatt, George Caleb Bingham, Thomas Hart Benton, August Rodin, Ansel Adams, and many more. With over over 30,000 pieces, the collection includes art from ancient Egypt to Ethiopia, from Aztec to Asian, Islamic to Indian. The place is a delight.

The Saint Louis Art Museum is one of those places where you walk in thinking, ‘I’ll just browse for an hour,’ and suddenly it’s four hours later, you’re deep in Ancient Egypt, and debating whether you could pull off a toga.

The collection is massive. Everything from European masters to African masks, American classics, and rotating exhibits that always feel fresh. You’ll see Monet, Van Gogh, Picasso, and then turn a corner and boom! Mummies, medieval armor, or modern art that makes you question if you, too, are secretly a genius with a paintbrush and a blank canvas.

What I really liked is how much of the artist’s history and context they share with each piece. It’s not just ‘look at this pretty thing’; you leave actually understanding the world these works came from. It feels less like a museum lecture and more like being let in on the secrets of art across centuries.

Bonus points for the building itself. Forest Park is gorgeous, and the museum looks like it was designed to impress you before you even walk inside. Also: admission to the main collection is free, which is probably the best deal in St. Louis (and maybe the whole Midwest).

SLAM lives up to the name. Whether you’re into art history, culture, or just want a cool place to wander where you’ll always discover something new, this is the spot. Don’t rush it though. Give yourself time, wear comfy shoes, and let the art do its thing.
