The Summerhouse has long been an institution for Chinese food in Iloilo City, holding deep sentimental value, I still remember my first taste of 'dulunggan sg amo' in their chopsuey from the old days. However, since the brand upscaled its restaurants, I’ve found our recent visits to be quite a letdown.
While the food quality remains good, the price increase accompanying the rebrand has eroded the value. For instance, a platter of rice serving two (or three if dieting) costs a steep ₱180. I simply can't justify the expense anymore.
If you are seeking the same reliable Chinese taste for half the price, I recommend Kong Kee. If you prefer a premium taste and ambiance for a comparable price point to The Summerhouse, Spring Palace is the superior choice.
