Only one of the three biggest venues in Metro Manila could take a 1,000-guest Sunday event on the date asked. It was the one that made us fill in a registration form first. Here is what happened when we ran a real 1,000-person brief through PICC, SMX and World Trade Center Metro Manila, and what the answers mean if you are booking large-format space in the Philippines.

The brief

A planner in Metro Manila wanted a venue for 1,000 guests on Sunday, September 20, 2026. She wanted to lock it within two weeks. The event type was still open: conference, assembly, graduation or expo. Her anchor was a Taguig convention hall. She listed her budget as “70000.00 USD.”

That number needed a sanity check before anything went out.

The currency check that saved the brief

Pesos and dollars look identical on a form. Run the math both ways.

• If it means PHP 70,000: that is about ₱70 per guest. It would not cover a single hall rental.
• If it means USD 70,000: that is $70 per guest, roughly ₱4,000. A realistic mid-tier budget for a 1,000-person convention in Manila.

We worked from the dollar reading and asked her to confirm it, plus whether the number was venue-only or all-in. At 1,000 guests, that second question moves the budget more than the first. (We hit the same trap on a 150-guest BGC event where the two readings were 58x apart.)

Three venues, three very different answers

We contacted the three Metro Manila venues that can physically hold 1,000 people on a single floor. Each one replied. None of the replies were a price.

PICC (Pasay): a fast, clean no

The Philippine International Convention Center answered in eight days. September 20 was fully booked. A clear decline, and useful: we could cross it off and tell the planner the same day.

SMX Convention Center: booked, but with three alternates

SMX had no availability on September 20 either. Their sales office came back with three other options: function rooms on September 6, on September 22, and on September 23. They asked for standard company-registration details before building a detailed proposal. The reply took about five weeks and came after a follow-up.

World Trade Center Metro Manila: the yes that came with paperwork

WTC replied on the same day as SMX with an application form asking for organizer and company registration details. Once that was submitted and approved, WTC asked one clarifying question: is this a two-day event with setup on Saturday? It was a single-day event, and we said so.

Then the proposal arrived. WTC offered the outdoor Tent for September 20, with a switch to indoor Hall A at the same package price if the hall opened up. The confirmation deadline was July 24, about eight weeks before the event.

What the three replies tell you about booking 1,000 guests

1. Date is the filter, not price. Two of three venues were already booked on the date. Nobody negotiated price with us, because the room was not available.
2. Big venues gate their quotes. Two of the three would not build a proposal without company details. Have your registration documents ready before you start.
3. Decisions need to be fast. WTC’s offer carried a hard deadline eight weeks out. A slow answer on your side is the same as a “no”.
4. Ask about the fallback space. A tent with a guaranteed move to a hall at the same price is a real hedge. Ask every venue whether they will do it.

What large-format space costs in Manila
