While visiting family in the Tampa Bay Area this week, we did our pilgrimage to the 120-year-old original Columbia restaurant in Ybor City, the historic Cuban part of Tampa. Walking through the beautifully tiled and otherwise uniquely decorated rooms of the Columbia restaurant in Tampa's Ybor City sheds light on the rich Cuban heritage of Tampa, Florida.
The Columbia restaurant, which is one of the most beautiful restaurants in the USA, also possessing one of the top wine lists in the USA, continues
to make excellent Spanish and Cuban cuisine served in an elegant genuine atmosphere of old Florida – Cuba style. There's a full bar and a wine cellar with over 1,000 bottles. We went for lunch to see the painted tiles of the exterior of the restaurant, which takes up an entire city block.
In addition to the can't miss "1905 salad" and any one of the delicious entrees, the Columbia serves the lightest and richest flan I've ever had. This week (November 2025) I had a delicious fresh substantially sized paella that had scallops, clams, mussels, prawns, chicken, red peppers and peas, all for only $28.

This was my third time dining at Columbia Restaurant, and it never disappoints! The food is always amazing, full of authentic flavor. The restaurant itself is huge, and each room has its own unique theme with beautiful antique furniture that reflects Spanish and Cuban culture from the 1950s. The flamenco show was absolutely beautiful and made the evening unforgettable. Such a memorable dining experience every time! Make reservations before you go.

Wow such an institution. Discovered this place during a walkabout of Ybor and made a mental note to come back if I could. I was in downtown, touring the Riverwalk, and William at the Visitor Center told me I had to go to the original location and made me a reservation. Glad he convinced me.

Take the trolley, it's the last stop. Restaurant is amazing in decoration but make sure you reserve b/c usually this is a wait. I always love trying new foods especially foods from countries I've never tried before.

As a plant-based eater, I took the server's personal favorite of the eggplant riojana. Reservation was great – no wait and they accommodated a single diner. Great atmosphere, packed in the 2nd dining hall. Service was fast and attentive. Got hot roll with butter during wait. Eggplant was great. I always get eggplant at Italian restaurants and this was nicely done with texture. The sauce was great with like olives and I ate like half of it before my server dropped by some Columbia hot sauce which made it next level.

Had a great experience. Only downside is at night be careful b/c the area doesn't have a lot of foot traffic, especially if you have to walk by yourself to the trolley a block away. During the daytime, visited the Columbia store which has cigars, dishes, sauces, coffee, etc.
