One of the less well publicised places to visit on a rainy day in St Andrews. Set in a Victorian mansion house the museum has an interesting collection of local artefacts from around Saint Andrews including the local executioner’s axe, not currently in use. Upstairs the museum features temporary exhibitions. The current one “Unveiling the Madonna” illustrates the restoration of an early Italian painting and the techniques used to analyse the painting’s structure and historic origins. Small but insightful with an excellent cafe, helpful and friendly staff and limited onsite parking. Not as famous or spectacular as the Cathedral or the Castle but well worth a visit. Free entry.

Nice small little museum. There is two floors and an outdoor area upstairs but a lot more information and learning downstairs. There is stuff you can interact with also. Museum is free but definitely worth checking out. There is a shop to help support them and donation stand as like I said it’s free.
Had never been in but was nice to learn some knowledge about the area from “back in the day”
Staff here are also very friendly.

What a wonderful museum! It is small and chock full of the history of St Andrews. It’s so worth a visit to this charming place that is free and they have a cafe for a spot of tea or cuppa and a sweetie. I liked that I could learn much about the community in just about an hour’s time. I discovered Fife was a major manufacturer of linoleum. Who knew? And there is much to it, with many creations being pieces of art (I included a few pictures). I’ll never look at linoleum the same way. There’s also a lovely labyrinth to walk and lawn bowling club around the corner.
