Very nice museum, no need to book in advance, we arrived at opening time. There are lockers of different sizes to put your items if you do not wish to carry them around
There are sculptures, paintings, objects, a wide variety of arts for every sensibilities 😊. It was a pleasure to visit and definitely worth the time!

It is very accessible and the café has a nice range of food, from sandwiches to dishes, and a nice selection of drinks.

One may wish to carry a jumper and/or a scarf, as some rooms can be a bit chilly in order to preserve the pieces.

The oldest museum in the UK also happens to house a staggering collection of artefacts, paintings, sculptures and many, many objects besides in a museum where every corner and turn brings with it a new discovery. Whether you're well read on Ancient Egypt or Greece, have a fascination with the Gilded or Iron Age, want to get lost in a Van Gogh or Monet painting, curious about the world of stopwatches or clocks or just fancy a photo with a statue of Julius Ceaser – there's a Mariana Trench of things to see, experience, learn and do at the Ashmolean and when you need a break, the cafés will make sure you sustain your energy and if you're after a souvenir or ten then the shop has a great selection of items on offer – especially if you love history and books like I do. Unless you plan to zip around the whole museum, this will take up your whole day but it's absolutely worth it for the breathtaking amount of things to experience here, whether you come solo, with friends or even the family, it's all free so the only thing you need to bring is time and buckets of it. You won't regret it. Simply unmissable.

What a wonderful museum. As often with large museums, there is so much to see here that one could visit every day for a year and still find something new and interesting on every visit. The exhibition in each room is themed, mostly by country and time period. Sometimes it was difficult to know where in the museum we found ourselves as the layout is almost like a maze. But staff is on hand to guide you to the right area, or the exit, if need be. And entrance is free, so we will be back.
