It was a cold and wet day, but this palace was a lovely way to spend our lunchtime. As you can see, it was in the middle of repairs when we were there, and its suffered a bit more than other castles we've went to. But we loved how wheelchair accessible it was (the lower section), along with all the diagrams and illustrations that informed us as we progress through the castle grounds. I also loved that we could see the "bones" of the palace, rather than just the surface treatments, which is of great interest to architecture-loving people like me.

If you seen the previous spots in our Scotland journey, you can see that the route was planned as a way to see the sights on our way down to Edinburgh and beyond. I would definitely allocate more time to see this beautiful palace if I had another chance to visit Scotland, so take that into account when you plan your trip.

This is a fantastic day out, there is so much to explore! There are four towers you can climb, of which one you can go outside at the top and really appreciate the view from extremely high up. The place is extensive and well worth the entry fee. There is a toilet on site and an area where kids can draw. There is parking for visitors but it fills up fast and we ended up parking just down the hill in the large paid car park.

What a spectacular feat of construction- they just don’t build things like this anymore. In spite of being worn by time and conflict to a “ruin” the building is amazing. That a structure so old is still intact enough to imagine it in use is a testament to the architects, stonemasons and builders. The remaining building is so strong and built with such craftsmanship, it boggles the mind.
It’s a must visit – reconnect with history and help preserve some of our greatest accomplishments for £11 – what a bargain.

Aside from that, the staff are absolutely lovely and Linlithgow is a quaint little place worth visiting.
