Took my kiddos here for my oldest son's birthday and they had a blast! One of the best zoos we've ever been to! Super clean, animals are happy & healthy, staff is very nice and helpful, and the food was great! Also very much enjoyed all the halloween decorations throughout the zoo! We fed the giraffes multiple times and fed the farm animals, that was so fun! We also rode the train and my kids rode the carousel, they loved it! The Southern Screamer bird was so funny! This was my 2nd time going but a first for my kids, we definitely plan to visit again!

    Potawatomi Zoo — A Must-Visit in South Bend 🦁🐵🐢🐷🦉🦒🦏🦦🦥🦩🦚🐊

If you’re near Northern Indiana, Potawatomi Zoo is worth the trip! It’s the perfect size for a half-day outing—easy to walk, family-friendly, and packed with memorable animal encounters.

    Why You’ll Love It
    • Up-close views: Tigers, red pandas, otters, giraffes, and more—you’ll feel closer to the animals than at many larger zoos.
    • Family fun: Train rides, carousel, and kid-friendly paths keep little ones engaged.
    • Affordable: Tickets are budget-friendly, and memberships pay off fast if you visit more than once.
    • Clean & welcoming: Staff are friendly, grounds are well-kept, and the zoo is easy to navigate.
    • Conservation focus: Many animals are part of global survival plans, so your visit supports real impact.

    Tips
    • Go early for more active animals.
    • Plan the train and carousel mid-visit (they close before the zoo does).
    • Check schedules for keeper talks or encounters.

    Bottom Line

Potawatomi Zoo may be smaller than big-city zoos, but that’s its charm. It’s intimate, engaging, and full of heart. Whether you’re a family, couple, or animal lover, you’ll leave with great photos and even better memories.

    ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Highly recommended!

First time here & it was truly worth the drive. The zoo is very modern & well taken care of. It is a medium sized zoo but packed full of animals and things to do. All the animals had beautiful enclosures & were actively moving about and interacting with each other. We saw several staff & zoo keepers maintaining the enclosures & the park which is always a reassuring sign. They are currently in the process of expanding their big cat exhibits which will definitely be amazing to see once finished! All in all a great zoo to visit if you have family or just looking for something different to do.
