I wanted to rewrite our review of The Barn at Dunvilla to give a more complete picture of our experience. I deleted my previous review on my own accord because it only focused on the issues, which wasn’t entirely fair.
First, our wedding day was truly magical and beautiful. The location itself is stunning, and our photos turned out absolutely wonderful. The bridal suite is spacious and well-designed — it was a great space to get ready in and spend time with my bridal party.
The venue host did an excellent job. Anything we needed, he handled quickly and professionally. Several of our guests even commented on how smoothly things went. The venue also provides a chair ramp for handicapped guests, which was appreciated by those who needed it.
One of the biggest positives is the flexibility — the venue allows you to customize your day and make it your own. They also let us have our rehearsal there at no additional cost and allowed us to set up early, which made the entire weekend much less stressful. The venue is reasonably priced for everything it offers, and we appreciated being able to use their décor, which saved both time and money.
The owner is pleasant to work with in person.
That said, communication during the planning process could have been better. After we paid our deposit to reserve the venue, we had to reach out multiple times over the course of several weeks to get responses to some basic questions. Our DJ also had questions about the sound system and tried reaching out multiple times without hearing back. I asked a couple of times for the venue to contact our DJ directly, and they did so the last time I reached out. When you’re planning one of the biggest days of your life, it can be stressful not to hear back in a timely manner.
Another area that could be improved was the alcohol setup. The venue is affiliated with Spanky’s, which is the only bar service allowed. We were a bit disappointed by that restriction, as we might have chosen a more affordable option otherwise. We pre-ordered through Spanky’s knowing our families would be big drinkers, and the required gratuity was over $500 before any services were provided. We would have preferred the opportunity to tip based on service.
The day before our wedding, the venue owner mentioned that we should move our honeymoon fund jar so it didn’t “compete” with the bar’s tip jars. We weren’t aware that tip jars would be out for the liquor items, as we felt what we tipped was already generous. The day of the wedding, the tip jar also wasn’t labeled to indicate what had already been pre-tipped. Had we known, we could have made a sign explaining what was already tipped. On our wedding day, the bar staff ended up moving our honeymoon fund jar off the bar, and unfortunately, we didn’t receive any contributions to it.
Afterward, I reached out to Spanky’s directly, and the owner was very understanding and made things right. He also said he would look into solutions to prevent this from happening to other couples in the future, which we truly appreciated.
Overall, The Barn at Dunvilla is a beautiful and accommodating place to celebrate a wedding. While there were a few communication and coordination issues along the way, our day itself was everything we hoped it would be, and we’re grateful for the memories made there. They did apologize for the communication issues after the wedding, which we appreciate.
