Our time at The Grey is amazing. Before coming here we watched the Chefs Table episode and I excitedly read the book. My wife was equally excited. Mashama’s food comes through as advertised. Uniquely southern but with a modern take. The atmosphere is romantic, nostalgic, and evocative. We had oysters to start that were magnificent – perfectly shocked and a mix of local, semi local, and from Massachusetts. Our middles we ordered the Cornbread Dressing and the Fired Squash. Dressing was perfectly balanced. Squash was great but lacked a little balance. Should have been WAY more habanero syrup. I feel that dish should have been sweet with cheese and squash. The breading over powered everything. We asked for more syrup and ended up LOVING the dish. For our main we got the Lamb. To say this was the best dish of the night would be an understatement. This was the best lamb dish I have ever had. One of the best protein dishes I have ever had dining out in general. Truly unforgettable. For dessert the Sweet Potato Olive Oil Cake was satisfying and a great finish. They also brought us a Chess Pie that I liked even better. Salty and butterscotch-ey. Wonderful.

What really sealed the night was the service. Ryan was incredible and so fun to spend our time with. He was welcoming, professional, jovial, and so so helpful. We can’t wait to come back again.

We came here for an upscale anniversary dinner and we were not disappointed. The service was perfect and they were very thoughtful and wrote a happy anniversary note. The staff were helpful and answered many of our questions. They also had many vegetarian options to pick from. It’s a coursed $85 meal and I felt given the amount of food we got, it was very reasonable.

The Savannah Red Rice was so good. It was definitely a great take on local food and was very flavorful and filling. I loved all the different vegetables in it – they were perfectly cooked and enhanced the sauce base. For the main, they had an okra and beans dish with bread. It also came with some salad and the salad was really fresh and had a very crispy dressing. The whole entree with its different parts went together so well. The beans were not too soft or hard but the perfect in-between.

Highly recommend!! After reading about this place, and the prices, we came in with very high expectations and walked out very satisfied. A wonderful server Katherine kept things light and happy and engaged. Both her and our bartender were so knowledgeable and engaging about what we were eating and drinking. Unfortunately, I can’t remember exactly what we ate on the $85 dinner menu (a couple of months ago!) but I know it was fantastic. The Parker rolls outstanding. Never had them before and now I’ll have to be chained to a fire hydrant outside so I don’t keep running back in and eating more. Cocktails were perfect and the selection was wonderful. Just a really great, great dinner. Thank you! Our best memory among many from this wonderful city.
