A beautiful cathedral and lots of history. A fantastic organ and a beautiful limestone floor full of fossils.

We attended a remembrance service and the acoustics were fabulous.

There is parking nearby on Vernon Street which is a 5 minute walk.

Plenty of events on so check the website for events.

Blackburn Cathedral surprised me in the best possible way. From the outside, it’s an elegant mix of old stone and modern lines — but once you step inside, the real magic begins. I wasn’t expecting to find a huge, flat model of the Earth spread across the floor — like a vast, artistic map reminding visitors how small we all are in the grand design. It’s not something you see in most cathedrals, and it immediately caught my attention.

The way the light from the high windows falls onto the “Earth” installation makes it feel alive, as though the world itself has been placed under a cathedral’s calm protection. Around it, the modern art, quiet chapels, and subtle music from the choir all blend into a strangely moving atmosphere.

This isn’t just a historic building; it’s a living, breathing space that welcomes art, reflection, and a bit of curiosity. Whether you come for prayer, architecture, or simply to see something unexpected — that Earth display alone is worth the visit. Blackburn Cathedral manages to feel both ancient and experimental, sacred and open-minded, all at once.

Such a spiritual place that accepts all. The top of the dome is like a watchtower or lantern. The stained glass is stunning. Also the misericords were great to help the monks rest during long swrvices and ornate.
