Well I hadn't expected to enjoy this little museum as much as I did. Well displayed, well informed boards, and part of the castles admission fee. Cafe and toilets on the premises, plus a little well priced gift area. Some interesting displays, definitely worth a visit if in the castle area.

I have a morbid fascination with military museums. I despair at the bloodshed and loss of life but at the same time marvel at the stories that the museum tells so well of those that fought in so many conflicts across the world over the last few hundred years. It doesn't glorify war but does give us a chance to reflect on the sacrifices made.

Impressed by the displays and curation of this museum that I hadn’t been planning to visit on my trip to Carlisle Castle. Despite the English Heritage website suggesting dogs aren’t allowed inside, they very much are.
