🟩 History= Toa Payoh Town Garden was completed in 1973. 🟨 Its main features are an observation tower & a landscaped pond with willowing trees.
🟧 In the 1970s, Toa Payoh Garden was really super popular for outdoor wedding photography. I should know, because my late eldest sister-in-law took her wedding photos here.
✳️ I have lived in Toa Payoh East since 1970, and Toa Payoh Garden is just 2 bus stops away from my block. 🟨 The garden was temporarily closed in 1999 to make way for a temporary bus interchange.
🟪 In 2002, the garden was restored to its former glory and intensively landscaped to make it more lush and with more verdant greenery.
😭 In 2024, Toa Payoh Town Park was closed from 1 February 2024 for re-development works. 🟨 The expected date of completion is 2030.
🔷️ The entire Toa Payoh Garden, plus Toa Payoh Swimming Complex next door, plus Toa Payoh Stadium and the entire sports complexes for badminton and other sports halls will all be demolished to make way for an integrated park and community facility buildings.
✳️ The entire area will be completed only in 2030.❇️ By that time, I am not sure if I would still be around, you never know. 💛 So I am sharing the older photos I took several years ago.
💙 I hope by sharing the former photos of a glorious & beautiful Toa Payoh Garden in its hey day, this would help preserve its memories for future generations to know and understand what Toa Payoh Garden was like.
💜 Please come visit the new garden when it is completed in 2030. 😥 My late father used to bring me here to this park in the 1970s when I was a little girl.
