I popped into York Library during Storm Amy, hoping to sit and dry out whilst I got lost in a book.
It’s a lovely building , well set out, light and airy with a very relaxed atmosphere.
It was a lovely surprise to discover that they have a cafe! I had a very good cuppa and piece of Rocky Road whilst I looked around.
There are lots of computers in addition to the books and the children’s section flows on from the cafe and includes a play table and comfortable low level seating.
The staff are warm and welcoming.
If you want a cuppa and prefer to avoid the tourist traps head to the library and support their cafe.

I love coming here. It's such a haven of peace in busy York. The cafe is great and the staff are all helpful and lovely. Browse the bookshelves and find something surprising (not dished up by an algorithm).

Good selection of books and an archive on the first floor.

Cafe located on the ground floor as well.

Free entry into a beautiful historic building.
