Okay, not going to lie, I started to get super worried about staying here after reading all the poor reviews but I booked in a hurry only few hours before staying. And to my surprise, I have no idea what others are talking about. Obviously this isn’t a Hilton or a modern best western. But it was cozy and did what it needed to.
-The room was clean, but I will admit the building is old. The locks seemed to have some issues on the doors, the beds are not the most comfiest, but the sheets were clean and fresh and the room was clean. The old 70/80 vibes of the hotel is actually fun if you think about it in that way. It was a nice change instead of boring simple modern day “designs”. The room had everything you needed and nice bathroom amenities as well. Some chocolate, chips and bottles of water were provided. The only cons on the room would be mattress comfort, door locks, and the blinds for the walk out poolside room need to be fixed or readjusted as some hooks were falling off. Not a big deal to us though.
-We had the pool side room which was sooooo nice. The is NO HOTTUB like mentioned, it is also now posted on their website. No hot tub was a disappointment as that’s a go for me and my smaller baby, but it wasn’t a mood killer. My other 2 children enjoyed the rest of the pool and the 2 water slides were awesome. Some up keep and paint could go a long way but doesn’t change our over all experience. Again, no hot tub was lame but the rest of the waterpark was amazing.
-We ordered room service, the gentleman over the phone and delivery was so friendly, nice and amazing. Service was great, food was also really good which I was worried about via poor reviews but much to my surprise everything was so good. Order came exactly how it should and they were able to accommodate all we needed.
-Front desk was super quick and efficient and friendly. Always said hi when I walked by and smiled. Very welcoming. The front automatic doors don’t work but I didn’t realize opening a door yourself was such a burden on some. Each to their own I guess. And trust me, I did it alone with 3 kids, a trolley and a stroller in tow. You’ll survive lol.
-The hotel has a on site casino which was a lot of fun, very busy too. Was nice to not have to leave the building and could walk straight back to bed.
-Last but not least, the breakfast is okay, they really do put a very decent breakfast on, but the quality of the products are just meh. The effort is nice to see tho and I thought the coffee was decent. There was still loads of options to choose from and seemed to have something for everyone. Hot items like sausage eggs and pancakes, juice, pastries, breads, yogurt, pancake topping station and fruit. The serves there all worked together and were also super nice, fast and efficient. Friendly, checked on us, cleared tables quickly and moved fast. Was nice to see especially since most of them looked young. The work ethic was admirable.
-All in all, I think if you stay here, don’t expect modern hotel vibes. But from my own personal experience, the staff across the whole hotel were amazing and it really made up for any other indifferences. We loved it so much we’re back this up coming weekend for another away hockey game. Can’t wait to enjoy another night here! Thank you MG Lodge!!!
